Dons give for Ethan

Members of the Cathedral Catholic High School community donated more than $113,942 yesterday on Giving Dons Day to raise money for the new Ethan Olson Memorial Scholarship.

The Olson Scholarship, named in honor of the late Olson, will provide students funds to attend  CCHS.

“Every gift made a difference,” CCHS Director of the Fund Mrs. Debby Rosenberger said. “Even if you only gave a quarter, it was doubled to 50 cents toward the scholarship.”

An anonymous donor offered to double every dollar donated, including a $50,000 gift to the cause if the CCHS community matched the amount, and yesterday afternoon, CCHS announced it had reached the margin.

“We reached our goal of raising $50,000 as a school, and every dollar was doubled,” the Director of Marketing Mrs. Anne Majer said. “That makes the actual amount over $100,000 for the scholarship.”

People around the world yesterday also celebrated Giving Tuesday, the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, when they donated money to various organizations to kick off the charitable giving season.
