Father Richard enlightens the CCHS student body

Father Richard enlightens the CCHS student body

New addition to the Cathedral community, Farther Richard Castro, is a warm-hearted priest from Buenos Arias, Argentina who joined the order after high school and was ordained as priest in 2006. He was sent to the United States for an International Religious Order in 2008.

Father Richard was inspired to help people get closer to Jesus. He said, “I felt like I could be an instrument of Jesus’ love and grace for others.” He said that he can help the heart of Jesus reach other hearts.

He left a piece of himself back in Argentina, his cousins and family that includes mom, dad, three brothers and one sister. As the oldest of five kids, he said he misses his family very much.

Father Richard said that religious faith is a greater part of life in Argentina than it is here. The church Masses in Argentina are similar to the one’s here; the only difference between our Masses and Argentina’s are the languages and types of music played during the Mass.

As any one else who has been here for a couple years now can attest, English is hard to learn. Father Richard said, “Its hand written one way, but said another.” He finds English hard because of the way we pronounce words.

Father Richard said, “Here I feel welcomed, it doesn’t feel much different than Argentina, because here feels like home – and it’s where I belong.”

Father has been an inspiration to our student body since September 2010, when he came to Cathedral.

“I love spending quality time with the students and sharing my faith with them,” he said.

He is available on Tuesdaya and Thursdays for confession during lunch only and by appointment.  Students may also find him on those days in his room in De Sales Hall.
