TikTok, a viral app with over 50 million daily users, has left a significant impact on many people’s lives. Among those touched by its influence is Colleen Hoover. Hoover is an author who generally writes romance and young adult fiction novels. Born in Sulphur Springs, Texas, Hoover initially pursued a career in social work before discovering her passion for writing. At age 31 she heard inspirational lyrics at a Avett Brothers concert that left an indelible mark on her life. One of their songs says: “Decide what to be and go be it.” This is exactly what she did. She published her first novel, “Slammed”, in January 2012. In 2020, her books began to go TikTok viral. BookTok, a subset of TikTok dedicated to book recommendations, prompted her exponential rise.

Her book “It Ends with Us” emerged as a viral sensation. Cathedral Catholic sophomore, Liesel Sellerberg loved this book, “It Ends with Us is an emotional rollercoaster that is addicting to read. Colleen Hoover portrays the complexities of love and betrayal, showing the painful realities of relationships. This story resonates long after the last page. I highly recommend this book.”

Despite her great success, Hoover’s journey was not without challenges. The world of publishing is extremely competitive and she remained resilient and persevered through her obstacles. Now, Hoover’s talent and dedication have paid off, leading to her flourishing career.

Today, Hoover is widely recognized as a bestselling author. As noted by the New York Times, “Colleen Hoover has sold more books this year than Dr. Seuss. She’s sold more books than James Patterson and John Grisham — combined” (Alter).

With all her success she has grown a large and devoted following who are known as the “CoHorts”. She’s also a standout on Goodreads, a popular platform where readers connect, share book recommendations, and discover new authors. With the second-largest following among authors on Goodreads, Hoover’s influence is undeniable.

Colleen Hoover’s journey stands as an inspiration to many. From starting as a social worker making $9 an hour to becoming a bestselling author, her journey highlights the importance of passion and perseverance in pursuing one’s dreams. Through her writing, she not only captivates readers but also touches their hearts with powerful storytelling and relatable characters. Her passion has resonated with so many people around the world, making her novels a staple in countless households.
