Love is in the air at Cathedral Catholic

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, love is in the air at Cathedral Catholic High School. New relationships are blooming and current ones are furthering into deep connections. What must be remembered on Valentine’s Day are the couples who are married and who celebrate together as they will forever as time allows.

Marriage is defined as a partnership that is meant to last forever, and one couple that is certain to succeed is Mr. and Mrs. Jon and Christy Bailleul. Though their dating experience had a rocky start, they blossomed into a husband and wife who have the utmost respect for one another.

With a love story that has a unique twist and unusual topics of interest, Mr. and Mrs. Bailleul have an unconventional look on romance.

Mrs. Bailleul said, “We would have great conversations…We would talk about books and history and get into deep nerdy topics…”

Though they later talked about their favorite movies and more fun topics, the Bailleul’s started out their dating conversation on academics and they fell in love due to their common interests. Superficiality was thrown out the window because they created such a strong and sturdy foundation from the get-go.

But before those deep conversations came about, were two months of horrible dates. Mrs. B said she was actually about ready to give up until one night changed everything.

She said, “I just kept thinking, either one, he is not interested in me or two, he is just overly nervous and he is never going to get over this and this is just how he is forever and it just isn’t going to work. So I said ‘no more chances’! If he doesn’t come alive tonight, I’m done….Finally, there was a spark of life, and he woke up! I realized that he actually liked me and wanted to get to know me and there was just this total turn-around. Without him even knowing how I was going into the night, he completely changed and opened up. We sat there and we talked forever…We actually looked around and realized that the wait staff was all lining up at the door. That was the best and most romantic date we have had. We actually closed a restaurant!”

Mrs. Bailleul explained that she and her husband do not always need to have special dates to keep their love and romance kindled, especially since that is very difficult with their two year old daughter, Reagan. “What we find romantic is often just silly. We don’t have walks where we hold hands…I don’t think it’s so much as a romantic date, but more a romantic life.”

Mrs. Bailleul figured out that the main reason why she and her husband do not have to be romantic around each other is because she actually never let him be. Even his proposal was sped up by her anticipation. She knew that he had the ring and instead of allowing him to execute the traditional proposal on one knee, she demanded her ring and wanted nothing more than to just jump right into the engagement.

Mr. B still comforts his lovely wife when she comes home from work. “When we first got married, I would come home so exhausted. I would walk in and Jon would have set up a new tablecloth with this full-blown delicious and amazing dinner. I would have a night of pampering, with candles and me not having to cook! That was the best part,” Mrs. Bailleul said.

When asked what she likes most about her almost-gourmet chef husband, she said “He is a very strong individual, but at the same time he feels things so deeply, especially with family. He is on par with all of my values, which is so important in a relationship…The best part of my day and when I feel the most love for my husband and my daughter is if I make it home before him, and we see him get home, and she just runs up and jumps into his arms when he comes through the door.”

Mrs. Bailleul cherishes her moments with her husband and they both look forward to many more years together. Though they closed down a restaurant, had great conversations on academic topics, and many more occasions of love, Mrs. B has her favorites: “When we got married, the most romantic moment was when I passed by the glass through the Mother of Confidence Church…I had to cross from the bride’s room very quickly so no one would see me. I guess Jon still saw me and he looked at his sister, with his hand over his heart, and mouthed ‘she’s so beautiful.’ I was just so happy with the widest smile and just so so so happy! Walking down the aisle, I was looking at him, and if you ever see love, that was his face. The look on his face was absolute love and I knew that he loved me for all of who I am.”

“The second most romantic moment of my life,” she continued, “was the morning after Reagan was born in the hospital. I woke up to her in his lap with their eyes locked and they were holding hands just totally immersed in each other. I said to myself, ‘this is my life and I love it.’ ”
