After a week off from games, the Dons baseball team picked right back up where they started with two wins over the Scripps Ranch Falcons and Saint Augustine. The Dons played the Falcons at home on Tuesday and won easily with a score of 5-1. Cathedral was lead offensively by senior outfielder Clayton Dale who had two doubles and three RBI’s on the day.

The Dons also had a great pitching performance from junior Connor Lunn, who pitched 7 innings and only gave up one earned run in addition to having four strikeouts and allowing only four hits.

“My last game I played in I struggled, so this was a good step in the right direction. I felt really confident out there, and that’s what you want as a pitcher,” Lunn said.

Following the Scripps game, the Dons defeated the Saintsmen on Thursday with a score of 8-5. Senior catcher Toru Sugiura went 3-3 with 4 RBI’s and led the team throughout the game. “Toru was a huge difference in the game. His energy and hitting definitely played a big part today,” pitching coach Mr. Rob Reiter said.

The Dons will have a rematch at Hickman Field on Monday at 3:30 P.M. Although they won the first two games, they feel they can still improve. “We shouldn’t be satisfied with that first win around. We made some foolish errors and played sloppy, but a win is a win. The second game I expect the team to come out with much more intensity and play smoother than we did at home,” Reiter said.

The Dons are currently first place in league with a record of 6-1, while the Saintsmen are right behind them with a record of 7-2. The third place team in league is Patrick Henry who are 4-5, meaning that the fight for first place in league is mainly a two team race.
