The Dons will play the Saint Augustine Saintsmen this Friday at 7:30, at Point Loma Nazarene for the third time this year. The first two games ended in Saint Augustine’s favor, first with a scoring difference of 6 points and the second game concluding in a 17-point win for the Saintsmen. In this contest, however, the Dons feel confident as they have a new game plan due to their experience with playing against the Saints.

“This time around we know what we have to change. Our main priority will be stopping their point guard Eric Monroe. He’s very good at creating opportunities for himself as well as others. If we contain him, we’ll have a good chance at winning, no doubt,” said Junior forward Michael Marshall.

Monroe, leading his team in scoring and assists, averages 15.2 points and 9.2 assists per game. In the previous game versus Saint Augustine, Monroe contributed 13 points and 11 assists in the Saints’ 72-55 rout of the Dons.

Last Friday, the Dons suffered a defeat versus the Mission Bay Buccaneers in a tight one. The game eventually came down to one point as the Dons couldn’t manage to keep their three-game winning streak alive.

“Games like that one are tough to lose. We were leading the whole game except when it counted most. Hopefully this game will fuel us for our next league game,” said Marshall.

Marshall was correct as the Dons soundly beat the La Jolla Vikings at home on Tuesday with a score of 62-49. Junior point guard Cameron Moore lead the team in scoring 17 points and also contributed with 6 assists.

“I think that this game was a great turnaround game for us. It puts us in a good place in league with a 4-2 record. We moved the ball around well, played good defense, and we were solid in every part of the game” Moore said.
