Cheering for the Dons at sporting events and competing in competitions, the Cathedral Catholic High School cheer team is looking forward to a busy and exciting year.

The cheer team has many priorities and goals this year. “Our main task is to cheer at all the games, football and basketball. So that’s always our main focus, and then what comes next would be our halftime performances. We definitely focus a lot for football because the stuff we do for halftime is usually what we work on for competitions,” says Senior captain Brianna Rotherham.

The cheer team plans to compete in two competitions this year in the springtime. Each year the Cathedral team gets stronger, and even more dynamic. “This year I would have to say base-wise, like stunting, we have more flexible fliers, and we have stronger bases, so we can do more elite stunts. We also have stronger tumbling. Our whole team can tumble this year, which is really cool to have 26 or 27 girls that can throw a back handspring. That’s really awesome, especially for a high school team, you don’t see tumbling that often,” said Brianna.

Every strong teams needs a dedicated leader, and that is exactly what Brianna plans to be. Co-captain of the team last year,  Brianna is excited to take role as varsity captain this year, but remains modest and focused on the team. “I don’t feel like I’m a captain of a team; I feel like I’m more of a role model,” said Brianna.

Overall, the team may look like they just cheer at sporting events, but deep down they are a well-connected and bonded family. “I’m like an older sister, I guess. But I love doing it,” says Brianna.
