Mr. Newton Quan, the new Physics and AP Physics teacher on campus, came to Cathedral from the Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad, Mr. Quan is still transitioning to the change in school and students.
“I am interested in the new challenge, the new environment, the new workplace, and the different types of students here,” said Mr. Quan.
Students will not see Mr. Quan barking military orders to his classes, however. He is prepared to strengthen the physics program here at CCHS.
“I want to bring what I know, what qualities I have, and just my expertise to have the students enjoy physics,” he said.
But, Mr. Quan did not always have the profession of a high school physics teacher in mind. He jumped around from major to major in college only to find himself bored in his classes.
At the end of the day, the only thing Mr. Quan looked forward to was tutoring his peers in physics.
“My boss at the time told me why don’t I just continue doing physics because it was something that I enjoyed,” he said.
Calculating speed and velocity is not the only hobby that Mr. Quan enjoys partaking in. He is also an avid hot sauce connoisseur.
“Really, I love hot sauce. I have a lot of students and friends who love it, too. But, it is taking it to the next level,” Mr. Quan said, “You think you know hot sauce until you’ve tried mine.”
Whether it be to discuss spicy hot sauces or complicated physics calculations, Mr. Quan is looking forward to the year and all the adventures that will come along with it.
His main goal is to have students, “walk away and see everything that we have learned in class in the real world. I want them to say this is what I have studied in physics.”
