Returning from a 17-3 record and a CIF Division II Team Championship, Cathedral Catholic’s girls Varsity tennis team is ready to begin the 2011 fall season.
For the upcoming season, the girls have practiced long and hard. According to their coach, they are both mentally and physically ready for what is to come.
“We have a great mix of young freshman and returning players that will help add some great depth to the team,” said Coach Ron Marquez. “This team is highly competitive and should do well this year as long as everyone stays healthy. One of our goals is to improve and develop as a team. The team has set goals of winning the Western League and repeating as CIF Champions.”
The players have taken the opportunity to come together and intensify their readiness for competition. The girls have bonded very well and taken advantage of their practice time.
“They continue to focus and motivate each other to work hard during practices as well as in matches,” said Coach Marquez.
Another factor affecting this year’s season is the freshman.
“We feel great about this season especially because we have gained a lot of new freshman that are really going to help us out and make us a stronger team this year!” said senior and returning player Lucy LaCosta. “We have been practicing almost every day and have really emphasized fitness for this season. The extra time we put into our physical exercise will help us to achieve our main goal, winning CIF for the fourth year in a row!”
