Campus Ministry Band

Campus Ministry Band

The Campus Ministry Band is one of Cathedral Catholic’s most popular classes.  Mr. Tim Foley teaches this class, which he created, that prepares students for performances in front of the entire student body.

The Campus Ministry Band students perform at every school liturgy and every Friday at Liturgy of the Hours. The band practices every day and even on weekends. “You have to really practice on the songs, but then you can be able to enjoy playing your instrument,” said junior guitarist Natalie Muscat.

Mr. Foley starts each class with a Bible verse that he reads from his cell phone. “I dropped my phone in the ocean, but it didn’t break, so if I ever stop doing verse of the day, I believe my phone will explode,” he said.

The band itself is split into sub-bands that play together. While the sub-bands practice for their next Mass or Liturgy of the Hours, they converse in practice rooms to work out how they will play the songs.

The band must always be organized and have its time managed well to stay on track. The band’s favorite song to play is “The Canticle of Zachariah.”

Mr. Foley came up with the idea for Campus Ministry band when he started teaching guitar at Cathedral. “The Campus Ministers were doing everything but the music at the time, and I thought that the students should do the music as well,” he said.

Mr. Foley has always worked with high school students; he believes he has a good connection with them. “Mr. Foley is the best religion teacher I have ever had,” said sound director junior Eugene Vivino.

Natalie said, “He puts the words of Christ into words we can understand.”

“Being in Campus Ministry Band is good practice. If you ever decide to do work in music in the future, it’s free training,” said Eugene.
