The Girl’s Water Polo team has wrapped up their season, ending in 3rd in the City Western League. Taking some tough losses, the girls are looking to come back better than ever next year.
The team’s standout underclassmen brought something special to the table. Sophomore Frankie McNeil was leading in points on the team, and is ranked 29th in the nation according to Max Preps. “Frankie is a strong center who creates opportunities and brings a lot of physical presence,” says Lily Dant ‘26.
With 6 seniors bringing a formative impact, the team chemistry was blazing. “The bond we’ve built as a team allows us to trust each other more, which makes our gameplay smoother and more effective, especially in high-pressure moments,” adds Dant.
Frankie is not the only underclassman who was standing out on the team though. Amaya Dresevic, a freshman on the team, has made a lasting impact on her teammates. “Amaya has showcased her amazing water polo skills since day one and her speed in the pool is unmatched, she is such an outstanding player to watch,” says Niamh Murphy, a senior on the team. “Amaya’s speed, awareness, and consistency make a big impact on both ends of the pool,” adds Dant.
Not only has the girls’ performance in the pool been prominent, but the team is also breaking stereotypes and bringing stronger recognition to female sports, in and out of the CCHS community. “I feel that it’s important to show that women’s sports are just as engaging, intense, and important as men’s sports,” says Murphy.
The girls water polo team is about far more than wins and losses. It’s about resilience, representation, and the power of opportunity. Women’s sports create spaces where athletes can challenge expectations, build confidence, and prove their strength both in and out of the pool. For these players, every practice and every game is a step toward breaking down stereotypes and inspiring the next generation of girls to compete, lead, and believe in their abilities. Their dedication reminds us that women’s sports are not just meaningful, they are essential in shaping a more inclusive future.
