Our 2026 softball team at CCHS has started this season strong with high expectations and a lot of excitement. Our school’s team is known for working hard and going against some of the best teams in San Diego. According to MaxPreps, they started the 2026 season strong with a great win at the Cougar Classic tournament on, “Saturday, Feb 28, 2026, the Cathedral Catholic Varsity Girls Softball team won…against Rancho Buena Vista High School by a score of 3-0.” The game showed how strong their pitching and defense are, which is something our softball program has become known for. This also helped set a tone for how the rest of the season will go.
The Dons have a lot of important league games against strong rivals like Patrick Henry, Point Loma, Scripps Ranch, and Christian High School. These games are part of the City Western and San Diego Section schedule, which has some very competitive teams.
Even though all of the stats for the 2026 team are not out yet, the team is able to build on the success from the 2025 season. Last year’s team played very strongly, making the games enjoyable and entertaining to watch. This year some players have moved up to better positions on varsity and junior varsity teams. This mix of experienced players and younger players is able to help the younger players learn more and get better quickly as well as teaching them good sportsmanship. A freshman on the team, Trinity Lorrain said, “The upperclassmen have shown me how important it is to support your teammates both on and off the field. They’ve taught me that there’s always someone who has your back, particularly on harder days, and that lifting each other helps everyone stay more focused on the game. It’s also something I want to continue doing for my teammates.”
The team’s schedule consists of league games and non-league games which will help them gain experience against the different types of teams. Junior Varsity games during March help younger players gain confidence and experience while playing in real games. With help from the coaches, our CCHS softball team hopes to continue to improve and end up making a strong run in the playoffs.
When the team is not playing they focus on working on their teamwork and school spirit. Junior Riley Marlin says, “Everyone gets along well and supports each other. When we come to the field, we’re able to reset, have fun, and focus on playing our best.” Having good sportsmanship and teamwork is very important for our school’s athletes. Without it, the team would fall apart, but for this year’s softball team, the students are able to keep it up and play good games. Families and fans are excited for what the rest of the season has in store.
