Every year, the Met Gala is held on the first Monday of May. This year, the date was Monday, May 4, 2026. The theme was announced prior to the event, and this year the theme was “Fashion is Art.” Outfits soared from simply just referencing an art piece, to actually becoming that art piece, but many were confused at how some outfits even met the theme at all.
First off, let’s dive into what our favorite celebs were wearing. Sabrina Carpenter turned heads in Dior and Chopard, with a custom dress, made out of film from the 1954 film, “Sabrina.” It was clever, as reporters would ask what she was wearing on the carpet, she would simply respond back with, “uhm, Sabrina!” Emma Chamberlain stepped out in typical Emma Chamberlain style in Mugler and Chopard, also in a custom dress, made from paint. Bad Bunny was there, dressed in Zara, but he may have aged just a little bit. VOGUE shares, “Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio’s prosthetic-fueled beauty look is meant to be in conversation with one of the many types of bodies explored as part of the Costume Institute’s 2026 exhibition—specifically, the aging body. (“Perhaps reflecting our fear of having to face our own mortality, the youth-oriented fashion industry has traditionally ignored the aged body,” reads a text in the exhibition catalog.)” Heidi Klum appeared, and as usual, just like her Halloween parties, she came out in full costume, becoming the statue by Raffaelle Monti, “Veiled Vestal.”
The 2026 Met Gala also made headlines because of how many athletes were there. Joe Burrow was there, and was dressed in Bode and Cartier, Justin Jefferson wore Who Decides War, Stephen Curry was also there with his wife, Ayesha Curry, wearing Balenciaga and Cartier. However, the male athletes were not the ones with all the focus. As we know, women’s sports are getting a whole lot more recognition, especially the WNBA. Many stars were there including A’ja Wilson, Paige Bueckers, and Angel Reese. The Winter Olympics Gold medalist Alysa Liu also appeared, and so did veteran athletes like Venus Williams.
The Met Gala proceeds go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Last year, they raised a record $31 Million, but this year, the event raised a record-breaking $42 Million.
This year’s Met Gala will go down in history, whether it was for who showed up, the outfits, for record breaking amounts of money, or the fact that someone was tackled by security right outside the venue, we know we will love and cherish it for years to come.
