As of March 2026, Iran is currently engaged in an active, direct, and intensifying war with Israel with the United States as allies joining in air strikes on Iran. Preceding these strikes Iran had violated restrictions on their development of nuclear warfare, as well as test historically tumultuous relationships with Israel and the United States.
PBS states, “Bombs are falling, people are dying and vows of revenge and retribution are being lobbed in escalating threats, all while untold taxpayer dollars are being spent on a military strategy that’s unexpected to continue for weeks with an undefined goal and conclusion.” The war is escalating day by day, but is Trump actually helping? The U.S. Congress is debating over President Donald Trump’s authority to bomb Iran under largely unusual circumstances that have never occurred before. PBS notes that, “without a formal declaration or an address to the nation, the Commander in Chief has already launched the country into a quickly spiraling war in the Middle East.”
The House is narrowly rejecting the Iran war powers resolution in a test of Trump’s strategy. AP News says, “The House narrowly rejected a resolution Thursday to curb President Donald Trump’s powers in the Iran war, an early sign of unease in Congress over the rapidly widening conflict that is reordering U.S. priorities at home and abroad.” The key points to keep in consideration are the lives lost, dollars spent, relationships broken, and alliances tested by a president’s unilateral decision to go to war with Iran. Many members of the army have families to support and loved ones who are at risk of dying on the frontline to fight in the war with Iran. Republicans largely support and back up Trump in his decisions, while Democrats oppose the war and every “king-like” manner in which Trump represents.
The Guardian states, “The human costs are not waiting to materialize. They are already landing. The state department urged thousands of Americans across the Middle East to leave even as airlines cancel flights and embassies warn they cannot guarantee evacuation. Americans calling the State Department have been told that travel assistance is not yet available. Asked why there was no evacuation plan, Trump said events had unfolded “very quickly” and that officials believed an attack was imminent. That answer is its own indictment.”
With numerous unsettled debates from both sides of the political parties, the House is still working on deciding whether or not to minimize and restrict President Trump’s power in decision-making in the war with Iran, or let it be. However, there has been countless feedback from the Democrats and Republicans on what they view as the best fit for the nation.
