At Cathedral Catholic High School, the names of the buildings are not just names. Saint Francis of Assisi, Francis de Sales, Katharine Drexel, and Frances Xavier Cabrini are important figures who help shape the values of our school community. Each of these saints lived their life focusing on their faith and helping others.
Saint Francis of Assisi
Saint Francis of Assisi is one of the most recognized saints in the world. He gave up his life of wealth to help the poor. He believed that all God’s creations should be treated with love and respect. St. Francis is important because he teaches us to care for others and the world around us.
Saint Francis De Sales
St. Francis De Sales was well known for his patience and kindness. As well as the way he spoke to people with respect. He believed that doing small, loving actions every day would lead one to live a holy life. One of his most well-known quotes is, “Have patience with things, but chiefly have patience with yourself…” Meaning treating yourself kindly will lead you to treat others kindly. St. Francis is important because he showed that faith should have compassion. Ms. LaPorte, a teacher at CCHS, believes students can take St. Francis’ teachings into consideration at school or even in their everyday lives because they remind us that “each day is a new, fresh day and that we should be gentle with ourselves and others.”
Saint Katharine Drexel
Saint Katharine Drexel was born into a very wealthy family. Because of this, she chose to use the many resources she had to help others. She started schools and helped people who were treated unfairly. She is important and a good role model because she stood up for equality and justice, even when it was difficult. Mr. Kevin Wenclewicz, a teacher at CCHS says a good way for students to apply this saint’s teachings in school or their everyday life would be in “those small but powerful ways, where you can kind of take your eyes off yourself and look for ways to help others.”
Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini
Saint Frances Cabrini was a missionary who helped immigrants. She built schools, hospitals, and orphanages to care for the people in need. Throughout her life, she needed to fight for the funding of the orphanages and the schools. Although it was a struggle, she didn’t give up and relied on her faith in God to keep her going. Ms. Gonzales, a teacher at CCHS says students can apply this to their school and lives in general because “students can learn perseverance and relying on God, even when you’re faced with challenges.” Mother Cabrini showed courage and leadership even when it was difficult.

Great article, I like how you organized in into sections and included quotes. This really gives depth, and makes it much easier to understand.

This article gave me a great background on who our buildings are named after. Very well done!
