Background Information
Reported missing on February 1, 2026, Nancy Guthrie is still nowhere to be found. The 84-year-old mother of “TODAY” show co-host, Savannah Guthrie, and family is in deep mourning and severely panicked. NBC News reports, “Law enforcement yesterday expanded its search of the surroundings of Guthrie’s home in Tucson.” Additionally, “Authorities also began searching through a residential area of Rio Rico, roughly 60 miles south of Tucson.” Guthrie lives in the north-east of Tucson, Arizona, near the Santa Catalina Mountains.
Being a part of a close-knit family, Guthrie’s daughter went to check on her at home due to how she had not shown up for church with them. Fear settling in, they immediately called 911 when there was no sight of their mother at her home. Unfortunately, Guthrie needs her essential medications or serious medical issues could occur for her. CNN notes, “Going days without essential medications could prove fatal for Guthrie.” CNN continued, saying,” Authorities have been contacting pharmacies and local hospitals for any sign of the woman or an effort to get medication for her.”
Current Updates
Many searches are currently active in pursuit of the abductor who has taken Nancy Guthrie hostage. The FBI is investigating the abduction, but a suspect has not yet been identified, nor in custody.
USA Today says, “A person has reportedly been detained by law enforcement in connection with Nancy Guthrie’s alleged kidnapping.” This suspect turned out to be innocent. Keeping an eye on all angles, investigators took a look at Guthrie’s footage from her doorbell camera, but it was not accessible since she did not have a subscription.
New Focus on Kidnapping
This recent abduction is sparking new concerns for kidnapping and its effect on society today. Concerns such as elderly living alone, high-tech kidnapping techniques, and motives for targeted celebrity connections. As no one may have expected an 84-year-old woman to be kidnapped from her own secluded home, fears have risen as to why there is a new surge in kidnapping, and what they can do to stop the dark motives. Make sure you stay safe and always check your surroundings when you’re out and about.
