Kicks for Kindness is a brand-new club here on campus that has been low on the radar. They have made a massive impact already and strive to grow their club further. Leaders Kendall Kmety ‘28 and Lauren Gaviola ‘28 give us insight into what their club has to offer.
The club’s main goal is to gather volunteers and students to attend events with TOPSoccer. TOPSoccer is an organization that is designed to create a fun and welcoming environment for kids with special needs. With this, TOPSoccer allows anyone to get involved and participate in playing soccer with young kids.
Kendall and Lauren wanted to give back to the community and help kids with disabilities. As both of them have volunteered at TOPSoccer before, they decided to bring it into the Cathedral community with their own club.
Kendall speaks about what the program means to her. “This program has shown me what it means to love and lead by guiding others.” Kendall has gained leadership skills and loves teaching others how to work with kids.
“Just by showing up for these kids means the world to them,” Lauren says about her time at Top Soccer. Lauren and Kendall want to expand their club and have others volunteer to get more people involved.
Lily Gonzales ‘28, a club member, is grateful for the immediate impact the club has made in her life. “It makes me so happy that we can share the sport we love with people who deserve to live their lives to the fullest.” Lily has volunteered at TOPSoccer and is appreciative of the time she has spent helping kids in need. Lily also comments on how fun the club meetings are and how productive they feel. Lauren and Kendall make the club’s overall atmosphere better than ever in Mr. Ragusa’s class.
Kendall loves the impact the club has had on her life and is beyond proud of how far the club has come.
As both Lauren and Kendall are only sophomores, they will have 2 ½ years left in Cathedral with their club. They hope to continue the amazing journey the club has been on and can’t wait to watch it grow even more.
