On Saturday, November 1, the Los Angeles Dodgers won the MLB 2025 World Series for their second time in a row after an intense matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays. According to Yahoo Sports, because they also won the World Series during the 2024 season against the Yankees, this is the first consecutive championship win for a team since the 1998-2000 Yankees. Along with all this, Pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto was named MVP after the series.
From an article by ESPN, at the beginning of the series, the Dodgers had a rough start being 2-3. They managed to comeback after winning the last 2 games in Dodger Stadium. For the Dodgers, winning the 2025 championship at home was the first time they had won the title since 1963. One of the most notable parts of this year’s series was the record being broken for longest game in postseason history. This game went on for 18 innings and lasted 6 hours and 39 minutes.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have been a long time rival to the team in San Diego, the Padres. When Brodie Serrano ‘27 was asked about how the win affected the rivalry felt as a Dodgers fan and a San Diego local, he said, “Well, obviously, it feels great being a Dodger fan, especially in San Diego, it can be a little challenging at some points, a little bit of, you know, banter back and forth. But I’m glad I’m now able to, kind of express my support for the team more openly, because no one can say anything, because we’re back to back champs. So, I think it feels pretty great.” This also marks the Dodgers’ 9th World Series win for the franchise.
One of the biggest questions of the fans as the MLB enters the offseason is if the Dodgers could repeat the same win next year. Brodie and other fans are confident that they can keep contending as champions. “Yeah, I feel like they can keep this momentum by, like, you know, remembering what they did last year and the year before that and then building upon that, just adding more and more to their, you know, team culture, to their practices,” Brodie shares. Regardless, the players and team have improved and put hard work and commitment into preparing for the next season.
