The first season of the Australian drama series Heartbreak High aired on September 14, 2022. It quickly became a show everyone was talking about. Soon after the first release, the second season was announced. It came out on April 11, 2024 and now, they’re back for a third and final season, set to air on March 25, 2026.
Starting with season 1, lots of drama happened in the span of only 8 episodes. On the first day of school, the main character, Amerie, gets picked up by her friends, and is shocked to find that her best friend, Harper, is not there. The season goes on to show lots of drama, whether it was the map some students found in the stairwell, Harper and Amerie’s friendship breakup, leading Amerie to become friends with kids who were known as “outcasts,” Darren and Quinni, or Harper and Amerie’s fight in front of the entire school. Many would say this was the turning point in the show, but others disagree.
Kaya Zanoni, a sophomore at CCHS includes, “I would say that a significant turning point, was when the Map was revealed. This event impacted the rest of the storyline because it ruined and exposed students’ secrets, ruined Harper and Amerie’s relationship, and set off the drama for the season.” One of the Characters, Dusty, also caused much drama. Amerie had liked him for years, and he fed that by pretending to like her too. However, the drama comes in when Dusty decides that he’s going to date Harper, and things only go downhill from there.
Later in season 1, Harper and Amerie then talk things over, Harper told Amerie why she stopped hanging out with her, and they eventually reconciled. Zanoni shares, “A moment that really shocked me, was when I found out about Harper’s backstory. It changed how I viewed what happened and how that affected the character development.” Season 1 was jam packed with many things. It ended on a cliff hanger, and left many yearning for a season 2.
This takes us to season two, a new character gets introduced into the story, Rowan. Rowan and Amerie quickly get introduced while taking a school picture, but little did Amerie know, they already knew each other. Chaos ensues as dead birds start showing up, one on Harper’s school bag, causing them to think that it is a hate crime against Harper, but then, one shows up in Amerie’s locker which makes them realize, that was Amerie’s bag that she lent to Harper, and now it’s a hate crime towards Amerie. They quickly named whoever was behind all this, “Bird Psycho,” and Quinni jumped in and was determined to find out who it was.
After much drama, they eventually found out that Rowan was “Bird Psycho,” but they only found out after Rowan and Amerie started dating. A fire ensues at the school dance in the last episode of season 2, while Amerie and Harper are stuck in a room with nowhere to go because Rowan had them trapped. Rowan gives up on trying, because he realizes that all along Amerie did nothing to wrong him, and his brother dying was just an accident. Amerie then rescues him and the whole school continues the dance outside, while the school is burning, and the firefighters are there. Leaving us watchers on another cliffhanger.
Moving into season 3, as said earlier, it will air March 25, 2026. Zanoni, when asked what she is hoping will happen in season 3 she shares, “I hope that in season 3 the characters become the best versions of themselves, and issues get resolved between the characters.” An article from GLAMOUR Magazine UK includes, “Josh Heuston (Dusty) was noticeably absent, which makes sense given his reduced role in season two after moving schools… Also missing was bird psycho, aka Rowan, aka Sam Rechner. His revenge storyline wrapped up in season two, so it’s safe to assume his character left after being caught.”
Missing characters or not, are we hoping this season will be as drama packed as the other two? Or, do we want to see the Hartley high schoolers finally have a little bit of peace? We do get a little bit of information on how it’s going to go from DEADLINE, saying, “The series will see the students at Hartley High preparing for graduation and impending adulthood, but when a revenge prank goes wrong, lead character Amerie (Ayesha Madon) and her friends are forced to cover up their secret or risk losing everything.” This leads us to think that the drama will be just as good.
