The Best Books to Read During Summer Break!
As the school year comes to an end and summer break nears, many are finding a lot of free time on their hands. During the school year, reading was never really anyone’s priority. Summer break is a perfect time to pick up a book and get back into reading. There are many books that are very enjoyable in order to help anyone regain their love for reading this summer.
Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Malibu rising is a historical fiction. It follows the points of view of four siblings, Nina, Jay, Hud, and Kit, all who are well known in Malibu. Yet, they are also a fascination to the public because they are the children of the famous singer, Mick Rivera. The four siblings are planning their annual end-of-the-year summer party at their beautiful oceanfront Malibu house. The party is highly anticipated by all those who are lucky enough invited and the hosts as well. Yet, something goes wrong at midnight and leads the beloved house to go up in flames. This story goes back and forth between two timelines, present and past. It also switches points of view throughout the story, each with a different plot line. This novel has so many different genres incorporated throughout that it is enjoyable for all. Through very descriptive writing, Reid does a great job painting the perfect summer picture.
Every Summer After by Carly Fortune
Every Summer After is a contemporary romance novel. The novel goes back and forth between two timelines, past and present. This book follows the main character Persephone “Percy” Fraser. Percy made one of the biggest mistakes of her life a whole decade earlier and had always stayed away from her beloved lake house. Yet, when she gets a devastating call, she has to go back to the lakehouse at Barry’s Bay. Here, she has to face not just her past, but also the present. Percy has to face an old best friend, Sam, whom she befriended at a young age. They would spend every summer together at the lake, truly inseparable. Yet, as they grew older their friendship turned into something more. When Percy made one of the biggest mistakes of her life that led to a falling out, Percy and Sam both thought that they would never see each other again. Yet, now they have to face each other and their undeniable connection. This novel is a fast moving romance novel that takes place over the course of six summers. This book is perfect because it has a great summer feel while also having a memorable and unique storyline that has you hooked from the very beginning.
The Summer of Broken Rules by K. L. Wathers
The Summer of Broken Rules is a young adult romance that takes place in Martha’s Vineyard. The main character, Meredith Fox, is returning to her family’s home in the Vineyard for her cousin’s wedding. This would be her first time returning to the house since the tragic death of her older sister. Meredith is having a hard time coping with the loss of her sister due to the constant reminder of her all throughout the family house. In preparation for the wedding, the whole wedding party is playing a very competitive game of assassins. Meredith wants to win the game for her sister. Yet, she meets the charming groomsmen, Wit, who she quickly befriends. This story follows Meredith and Wit and their secret partnership in the game. The novel is a very fun, lighthearted, fluffy romance novel. It is a quick read due to the fast plot. The novel captures summer perfectly while also having such a unique plotline.
The Bodyguard by Kathrine Center
Although this novel does not take place in summer, it still has a very fun and warm plot just like many other summer novels. The Bodyguard is a contemporary romance. The main character, Hannah Brooks, is an undercover bodyguard. She is given a new case, a famous actor, Jack Stapleton, who is being stalked. Yet, Jack’s mother is sick and he has to return to their farmhouse in Texas. In order to protect him and the family, Hannah and Jack start a fake relationship when they are living in a farmhouse. The more and more time Hannah and Jack spend together, the more the line between fake and real starts to blur. This novel is a perfect beach read. It is very witty and heartwarming, but also includes some very unique plot points that keeps you on our toes.
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
We Were Liars is a very popular book which became viral on “Booktok”, a community on TikTok that was built around reading. This novel is a Mystery/Thriller that takes place on an Island just off the coast of Massachusetts. The main character, Cadence SinClair, is returning to the family’s island for the first time in a while. She has not returned because a very terrible accident happened. Cadence cannot remember what happened and she hopes that returning to the island will help her remember. This book is written so uniquely and very modern. We Were Liars is a perfect mystery novel that will have you hooked from the beginning. The plot moves very fast but it is still very easy to follow. This book is the perfect for a summer vacation or a poolside read.
