President Kate Garofalo, VP Kate Petosa, Treasurer Cameron Bernard and Secretary Jaclyn Wachs have been elected to serve as the ASB Executive Officers for the 2016-2017 school year. Each has served on ASB before and will focus their efforts of helping incoming class officers and commissioners plan social events for the Cathedral Catholic High School student body.

Cathedral Catholic High School students elected their new Associated Student Body executive officers last week for the 2016-2017 school year.

“The executive officers are the faces of ASB,” current ASB Executive President Matthew Elliott ’16 said.

The Cathedral community will recognize four familiar faces in ASB’s executive cabinet, as all of the newly elected officers have served on ASB before. After each serving three years as class officers, Kate Garofalo ’16 and Kate Petosa ’16 will lead ASB as the Executive President and Vice President. They will be joined by Cameron Bernard ’16, treasurer, and Jaclyn Wachs ’16, secretary. Together the four will lead ASB in serving the Cathedral Catholic community, which Garofalo believes is the core duty of ASB.

“ASB is responsible for representing the interests and goals of our school community,” Garofalo said.

ASB plans nearly all of the major school events throughout the year, in addition to sponsoring over 50 student-run clubs. ASB focuses much of their effort on planning and sponsoring social events for students, which Petosa believes is key in giving students a well-rounded high school experience.

“We have such an academically rigorous school that it’s important to have ASB to balance our amazing academics with some awesome activities like our school’s rallies, dances, and lunch time events,” Petosa said.

To tackle the tasks ASB faces every year, the executives will work with the elected class officers and commissioners. Garofalo, Petosa, Bernard, and Wachs share a common goal of helping incoming officers “learn the ropes,” as Petosa said.

In addition to overseeing all of ASB’s operations, the executives will represent the student body to administration, other schools and prospective families. As he feels these duties are the most important of the executives,’ Elliott wanted to leave the 2016-2017 executives with some advice.

“To next year’s executive officers I will say you definitely have to get comfortable talking in front of crowds,” he said. “Make sure you work hard on planning events and the rest of ASB does the same.”
