Honoring history
January 20, 2020
Hoping to celebrate and commemorate civil rights leaders, Cathedral Catholic High School will not have school today to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which was first approved as a federal holiday by former United States President Ronald Reagan in 1983.
CCHS has been preparing for MLK day, which celebrates diversity, by honoring Martin Luther King Jr. through prayer, Dean of Mission and Ministry Mrs. Stacy Wells said.
Some entertaining and unique ways to honor MLK Day locally include participating in the 40th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade that marches down Harbor Drive at 2 p.m and consists of breathtaking floats, bands and drill teams from local high schools. Another way to celebrate diversity and MLK Day is visiting the Museum of Man in Balboa Park where attendees can educate themselves on the history of King’s fight for equality.
