Cathedral Catholic’s “Where the Wild Things Are” prom will take place this Saturday night, May 14th, at the San Diego Zoo. The doors open at 7:00PM, close at 8:00PM, and the dance will last until 11:00PM.
Unlike previous years in which prom was held at the University of San Diego, the San Diego Zoo is the new venue chosen by the CCHS Associated Student Body.
While many students wonder why the venue switched, the change originated from the student body’s general desire to host prom someplace other than USD.
“From what I really understood, people have always wondered if we could have prom somewhere other than USD, and so this year we tried very hard to do that. It just so happened that it ended up at the zoo! But I think it’s going to be really cool,” said senior class secretary Nina Sousa.
Concerning the San Diego Zoo, Sousa and other ASB members are most excited to see how the decorations and general atmosphere of the venue appear on the big night.
Sousa said, “It’s at this different place that no one has really seen, and it’s in a more formal setting. I’ve seen pictures of the actual place with all the lights, and it looks super cool.”
Besides ASB members, students, too, are enthusiastic about the new experience, “I’m excited to see what the music, the food, and the decorations are like,” said senior Cristina Cabrera.
Though the venue digresses from the Cathedral/USDHS tradition of USD, students express interest toward the idea of experiencing prom at the world famous San Diego Zoo,” said senior Megan Marshall.
