It was the moment everyone had been waiting for – widely regarded as the most important game of all time, and the most intense twenty minutes of the 2013-2014 school year. It was the Seniors vs. Faculty basketball event.

On May 26, 2014, students had the opportunity to watch as an elite group of Cathedral Catholic faculty took on a handful of athletic seniors in the annual basketball game. The faculty team consisted of seven members: Mr. Gary Minner, Mr. Gary Remiker, Mr. Chris Grazier, Mr. Sean Doyle, Mrs. Cindy Keller, Mr. Kevin Dunn, and Mr. Stephen Anderson. Members of the senior team were Xavier Ulutu, Josh Gizzi, Giovanni Garbella, Sean Bouchard, Kyle Davis, Aaron Mitchell, Amanda Dea, Erika Graham, and Juliet Jones

As soon as the ball was thrown up, the battle began; arms flailed, shots flew, and students cheered. The faculty quickly gained a lead that they held for the rest of the first half. Seniors attempted to catch up, but their athleticism was no match for the impeccable skills of the faculty. Mr. Minner, also known as Mr. Lebron-James-Minner, put up two three-pointers in just five minutes. Mr. Remiker, the AP Statistics teacher, used his math skills to compute that it was not probable for him to make any threes, so he instead allocated his talent to move the ball faster than the superhero Flash himself.

Although the faculty was putting points on the scoreboard just as if it were their job, the senior team also put up a fair fight with player Xavier Ulutu, who made almost every one of his shots.

Sophomore spectator Derek Reh said, “It was the most amazing game I’ve ever seen in my life. I have been waiting all year for this. My life is complete.” Some students, such as sophomores Brennan Straub and Hunter Reh, even fainted from the extremity of the game. “It was so amazing that I just couldn’t handle it,” said Brennan.

The general consensus labeled Mr. Minner as the game’s MVP, with his numerous rebounds, shots, stolen balls, and his diving play to keep the ball in bounds. As the clock wound down, it became apparent that the faculty would maintain their game-long lead. Though the seniors put up a valiant fight, the faculty continued to push on, and ended up winning the game by a large number of points, which was something like five.

As the game ended and the champions were crowned, the faculty team was hailed as the “hardest ballers in the school”, and everyone went back to eating their lunch.
