On Friday, February 7, Cathedral Catholic’s class of 2015 will have the opportunity to bond together for the first time in a unique CC tradition: the Junior Unity Mass.
“The Mass is one major event of the year that is just for juniors,” said Junior Class Moderator and Pre-Calculus Honors teacher Ms. Katie Linn. “As second semester juniors, students are beginning to truly understand what it means to be a Don and are getting ready to fully embrace the sense of family at our school as seniors.”
To accept and celebrate this new role, all juniors and their parents are invited to attend the liturgy at 11:45 a.m. in the Claver Center gymnasium. Students will wear dress-up day attire, and will be excused from their Gold 4 classes on that day.
“I was very moved to be sitting at Mass with my daughter as the juniors were called on to be the new leaders of the school,” said Mrs. Debby Rosenberger, a parent who attended last year’s Junior Unity Mass. “I think that the juniors felt so valued and honored to be recognized as ‘role models’ for the rest of the student body, and it was remarkable to witness the camaraderie and respect among the students.”
Juniors are also asked to bring class rings or alternative rings to be blessed. The liturgy is directly followed by a lunch for both parents and students to enjoy.
Ms. Linn said that her favorite part about the Mass is that parents have the opportunity to be present with their sons or daughters in celebration of the liturgy. “It’s such a great opportunity for parents to see how their students in Campus Ministry Liturgy and Schola as well as the Ambassadors for Christ Corps contribute to their class and school. It is also nice to see parents and students get the opportunity to enjoy lunch together,” she said.
Parking is available to parents in the lot west of Claver Center on Del Mar Heights Road, but it is recommended that parents arrive early in order to ensure spots.
