The G.O.A.T.s Coming Home
The number one women’s tennis player Serena Williams announced her retirement from playing tennis in early of August 2022, declaring that her last match would be the U.S. Open.
Starting strong in the first two rounds, Serena won against her opponents Kontaveit and Kovinic in the Women’s singles match. But unfortunately, she lost in the third round to Tomljanovic. Though Serena wasn’t able to win her last U.S. Open, she has left a lasting legacy in not only tennis but also all other sports.
Cathedral Catholic tennis player, Nicole Nazemnikova says, “Serena is an inspiration to me because she focused on her dream to be the best women’s tennis player. And now that she has retired she is continuing to be an inspiration to younger players.”
Many famous celebrities attended Serana’s last match including model Bella Hadid, pro golfer Tiger Woods, actress Zendaya, former First Lady Michelle Obama, musician John Legend, and many more. Serena brought out people from all walks of life because she has found a way to impact so many people thanks to her tenacious playing and encouraging words.
Serena has won a total of 23 major single titles, which is the record for men and women in singles tennis. Serena leaves her mark as not only as a wonderful athlete but as well as a great mother, and role model who will forever be the G.O.A.T.
