After wrapping up another successful season with a 24-3 record and, now, back-to-back Western League titles, the Dons prep themselves for another possible CIF title and a deep run in the state tournament.
The Dons came into the season with big expectations, coming off of a 30-win season and returning all but one player on the roster. The boys definitely lived up to the hype as they concluded this regular season with a perfect 12-0 league record, which was rewarded by the Dons second consecutive league title.
The boys played stiff competition all year, including the Saintsmen who they faced three times this year, but time and time again the boys’ senior leadership and experience helped them prevail. Seniors, 10 alone on the roster, have been key this year. All have played key roles this year to help lead the squad to another memorable season.
After winning at the buzzer last year against Mission Bay in the Division III title game, the Dons look forward to making themselves back-to-back CIF champs.
Not only did the boys win the CIF title, they won 2 games in the state tournament making it to the quarterfinals of the state tournament.
Currently ranked 21st in the state, the Dons look like a strong contender to make a serious run in the state tourney. The Dons haven’t had this type of success since Luke Walton was on the team. Walton currently plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The boys have already gotten off to a fast start in the playoffs with two huge blowout wins over High Tech High and Mission Bay, both games won by over 50 points each. The boys will face off Valley Center in the semifinals on Wednesday the 27th at 7:00 in the Claver Center.
If the boys beat Valley Center, they will move on to the CIF Finals and another possible rematch against Saints. Make sure to come out and supports the boys as they continue their deep playoff run.
If the Dons and Saints both win this week, they will meet again on Saturday, March 2nd, against Saints at the Viejas Arena at SDSU at 3pm.
