The CCHS track team worked hard through its three and a half month season that started in mid-February and is ending this past weekend. With practices everyday after school, the athletes pushed through to surpass last year’s records. Some also went on to compete in the CIF championship.
“I had so much fun running track this year. I always looked forward to seeing both the athletes and the coaches,” said junior Maggie Fitzpatrick.
About 30 students competed in the CIF with the boys finishing 3rd overall and the girls finishing 7th. Senior Trevor Stevens and junior Caitlin Krol were CIF champions in the 200 and 1600 event.
The team this year did just as well throughout the season as last year’s team, although they did not win league this year.
“My goal for this year was to have every athlete enjoy the sport and reach their potential,” said head coach Mr. Dan Geiger.
The boys and the girls teams both had just one loss in their meets, against Scripps Ranch, the team’s toughest competitor. But the students kept their heads up and did not let the loss bring them down.
“We won with chivalry and bore our single loss with dignity. I couldn’t pick a team I’d rather be a part of than this team,” said junior Anthony Boffman.
The boy’s team set three school records this year, and the girl’s have an athlete competing at State.
“It was a good season. Everyone worked really hard, and all the hard work paid off in the end,” said junior Emily Buckley.
