After a slow start from the Dons Boys Soccer team, the refocused players look to cap off the successful season (14-5-3) with two more league wins and eventually another CIF Championship. The Dons have played well as of late with a 0-0 tie to a tough Saints team and an 8-1 routing of Kearny at home last Thursday.
The Dons’ offensive attack, led by senior forward Mike Semenza, has been characterized by opportunistic scoring spurred on by midfielders freshman Jared Hagardt and senior Colin Maehler throughout the season. The strong defensive front is headed up by senior defender Dylan Stafford and senior goalkeeper Nicola Garbella.
“Even though we started off a little slow, we are really picking it up, and now we are really looking forward to go into CIF, ultimately to win another championship,” said saves leader Garbella. The team’s twelve seniors are especially hungry for one more CIF Championship as their high school careers draw to a close.
Garbella encourages Dons fans to rally behind their team as they play one of the most important matches of the season. He said, “Come support us against rival La Jolla for the Western League Title this Thursday at CCHS. We are honoring Drew Delis.”
