PCPA Worth the travel?

The theater lights set an ambiance feeling before each show. The actors loved seeing all the smiling faces after the show, and the audience loved the risers and beautiful set.

PCPA, the Poway Center of Performing Arts, is about a twenty minute minute drive from campus, but is it worth it?

Many questions have arisen relating to the use of Poway’s Theater instead of our own. Why would students drive?

The short answer is that PCPA is a more professional theater. From a huge grand lobby, to a large comfortable house, to high level sound, lights, and rigs, it is above the level of Cathedral’s theater.

This first show only just touches the surface of PCPA, and the cast is so excited to have been able to use the theater and all that comes with it.

Alyssa Rusnak ‘25, one of the stage managers in drama tech, says the new theater at PCPA, “was a big upgrade from what we have at Cathedral, and it was super nice!”

The house manager, Xavier Gonzales ‘24, expresses his experience as “really enjoyable, I loved having the space for all the audience to come and watch the show.”

The PCPA crew is amazing, with a University High School (Uni) grad within their ranks. Their staff was incredibly accommodating towards all of the Cathedral students and families while they were there.

Gonzales reflects, “The staff was really friendly and very welcoming. They were respectful of me, even though I was the youngest person in the room.”

From an audience perspective, Lucy Miller ‘25 shares her excitement to be at PCPA, she felt that “from the moment you walked in and got your ticket, it felt very professional and it set a tone parents and students both appreciated and noticed. It made the performance itself feel more professional.”

In conclusion, the theater gives Cathedral’s own drama program access to shows and performances unavailable to them before. We can’t wait to see what Ms. Wilson and the whole cast has in store for their next musical in February!
