At Cathedral Catholic the health and safety of our student athletes is very important. To keep our body’s in great condition and to be able to flourish at a high level is what makes CCHS so dominant at sports. Our athletic trainers have helped and nourished so many of our athletes to overcome their injuries and help them to prevent injuries in the future. We have 2 athletic trainers Ms. Ashley and Ms. Austin. They are both beloved by the faculty and student body because they come into work everyday with huge smiles and positivity that radiates off them. It’s amazing to see the impact they have made because the health of our athletes is very important and our trainers are a truly valued addition to our school.

Senior Christopher Schilling talked about the impact they have made on him, “Our trainers are for real something out of this World. During football season they always checked up on everyone and helped every person who needed it. They would also support me and help me when my blood sugar would go low or too high. Because of my diabetes I missed some practices and this led to me getting closer with the trainers and it’s really nice to be around people who just want the best for others”.

To see the impact these trainers have made on the students is amazing. El Cid caught up with the lovely Ms. Austin to talk about how she found the love to be an Athletic trainer. “I didn’t know about athletic training as an athlete. I never had an athletic trainer. I knew getting into a career I wanted to be around sports, and I wanted to do something that was helping people in some form of healthcare. So when I finally did figure it out and found that athletic training combined all the things I valued and wanted to do was amazing. Helping these student athletes has led me to also mentor them and help them with whatever they need. It is an amazing opportunity and I enjoy every day here.” Talking to the trainers and seeing how they interact with the students you can really tell they love what they are doing and the positive effect they have on others.

Our trainers love the students and urge all students if injured from their sport and want information on what to do come to them and they will help you out. We are blessed to have our amazing trainers. Say hi to them if you see them and don’t be afraid to ask questions because they want the best for us.
