Student success in action

Freshman Success Day, an event this week to prepare and guide Cathedral Catholic High School freshmen, will involve counselor meetings in order to determine the students’ schedules for the 2020-2021 school year.

“Counselors are pushing into the classrooms this year for freshmen so that we get to see them in a more academic setting,” CCHS counselor Ms. Emily Cullen said. “That allows us to have more one-on-one time with them and answer questions specifically when they are picking courses. Freshmen will spend next week meeting one-on-one with counselors to review classes and answer questions.”

After having met with each freshman religion class, the school counselors will meet with each student individually in order to discuss and finalize class schedules. Various new electives, including walking physical education, will be available for students to choose.

Along with freshmen, current sophomores and juniors begin course selection in the coming weeks.

“We want them to feel confident in their course selection for next year and find balance between their classes to challenge themselves academically and spend time outside of school living life,” Ms. Cullen said. “We want to support your overall wellness and what’s best for you.
