Students will remember them from the Fall Rally, but the members of Mance Team are ready to take center stage in Cathedral Catholic High School’s fourth annual dance concert.

“Performing is really fun because it’s just a chance to do something funny and entertaining in front of the whole school,” Mance team member Lars Tvedt ’16 said.

Every year a group of senior boys is asked by CCHS’s varsity Dance Team to be part of the all-male Mance Team. Dance Team members choreograph and teach dances to this male ensemble, which performs at major school events like rallies and concerts. Both Mance and Dance Teams have spent hours gearing up for their first main stage performance this year at the Winter Wonderland Dance Concert.

“They have all their dances down and we’ve just been working on getting them to perform,” Varsity dance team member Becca Robbins ’16 said. “We’re trying to get them to loosen up because when we started they kind of looked like robots.”

The two teams have been working together to perfect multiple, new routines to perform for their one-night performance tonight in the Guadalupe Theatre. In rehearsal, the dance team members walk the Mance team through every single step. Once the boys are up to speed, they focus on synchronizing their movements.

“The hardest part is mainly remembering all of the parts and executing them as perfectly as possible,” Tvedt said. “The routines are much funnier if we actually do them well.”

Robbins and Tvedt agree that the appeal of Mance Team is its dedication to comic relief. The Mance Team thrives off of laughter from its audiences to keep it going. Both Mance and Dance Teams encourage everyone to support their performances in the Winter Concert tonight, as they have been working on many crowd-pleasing dance numbers.

” ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ is definitely the best dance,” Tvedt said. “We get to wear sexy Santa costumes. What’s better than that?”
