The Fashion File: cold weather clothing
November 20, 2015
With winter rapidly approaching, ‘Sunny San Diego’ is cooling off a bit. With the cooler weather comes a festive opportunity: winter accessorizing.
Of course you could accessorize any time of the year, but the extra layers also serve a functional purpose in the fall and winter. Down jackets and gloves are not exactly necessary in 50 degree weather, but throwing on some extra layers over your uniform can help you stay comfortable and express yourself at the same time.
My personal favorite way to accessorize my uniform is with a scarf. The options are seemingly endless; your favorite patterns and colors can be mixed and matched with a polo. Scarves range in weights, from cable knit to lightweight cotton, giving you as many combinations as you can dream up. When it inevitably heats up at lunchtime, you can just throw the scarf in your bag.
Another popular way to personalize your uniform is by wearing tights. Tights are not as versatile as scarves, but they come in many fun patterns! I would recommend sticking to more neutral colors and patterns so that they are not overly distracting.
This last accessorizing tip is no secret, but wearing a longsleeve shirt underneath a polo is a great way to stay warm in the mornings. Try swapping out the basic white undershirt for one in a color that contrasts with your polo.
Hopefully, these three tips will help you stay both warm and stylish this fall and winter. Have a great Thanksgiving break!
