The Cathedral Catholic girls lacrosse team is currently ranked first in the San Diego Division 1. They have a record of 4-1 so far and have won against Santa Margarita, La Costa Canyon, La Jolla, and San Marcos.
The girls prepare for the season by staying in shape during the months before the season. They focus on getting stronger and working on skills with coaches and teammates. Mentally, the girls have been preparing for the season by keeping an open mind before practices and games. This helps to ensure that they are very prepared for the season as conditioning is important for a sport like lacrosse.
They also spend time at practice improving their stick-handling and passing skills to get better individually. Furthermore, they also run various plays to be able to contribute their skills in a game and play better.
Renee Velez 26’ explains her goals for the season as she hopes to “continue to grow closer as a team, make new memories, win CIF, and finally beat Torrey Pines.” These goals are important for the team because it not only brings everyone closer to a common idea, but it also gives the girls a solid vision to work towards together.
Lyla Palecek 26’ mentions that “team chemistry is extremely important on the team because every girl on the field is working together to play their best.” This team synergy allows for athletes to have trust in each other and play better overall.
The girls dedicate so much time to their team, which also contributes to the bond they grow throughout the season.
Looking ahead, the girls have many more games to look forward to this season. As they look toward league finals, they are working hard to achieve their goal of winning a CIF title as they get better and better each day.
Overall the season has been going very well and “we have been playing better than ever and it looks like we’re going to have a great season,” Sofia Durazo 26’ says. The girls also hope to continue their winning streak and grow even closer as a team this season.
