On our first day back from Christmas Break, CCHS introduced a new food truck through our school’s collaboration with Culinart. Culinart’s hopes for this truck are to bring authentic street food to us on our very own campus. From wings to nachos to burrito bowls, the food truck offers various creative dishes for students. As we head into our third week back at school, students have begun to form their opinions and reviews on this unique take on school lunches.
Last week, a friend and I ordered the honey garlic chicken from the food truck to split. They have the meals hot and ready to go when you step up, so there was no wait, which is amazing. For the meal we ordered, they give you 3 pieces of chicken with a side of homemade chips. For the most part, the food was really good. The chicken had a really distinct flavor that was sweet but had a little kick in the aftertaste, and the chips were crunchy and well-seasoned. We definitely recommend ordering it!
Lauren Howe, class of 2027, had great things to say about the food truck, noting, “I really like how they serve a different meal every day, and how all the meals are unique.” Lauren ordered the Doritos Nachos from the food truck. It was served in the Doritos bag, so the chip part of the nachos was Doritos, not just tortilla chips, bringing that uniqueness that Culinart had intended. It also had meat and a ton of spices.
“After I ate it, my stomach kinda hurt,” Lauren adds, “but other than that it was so good, I was passing it out to all my friends.” As the nachos were one of the first meals offered through the food truck, they were very popular on their first day here. “I could see everyone around school carrying their little Doritos bag with the nachos in it,” Lauren noticed. When asked if she would order lunch from the food truck again, Lauren exclaimed, “Absolutely!”
One of Lauren’s friends, Dottie Woods, also got the nachos from the food truck. Dottie’s experience from the food truck was slightly more negative than Lauren’s. “I really liked the taste and how flavorful it was, but my stomach hurt way too much after eating it,” she says. “Some of my friends had it and had no negatives, so I would say it’s still worth trying.”
When asked if she would order from the truck again, Dottie says, “For the nachos, no. I probably would order from it again if I got a different meal.”
Overall, the food was great and was a nice break away from typical lunches served at the window, like chicken tenders and burgers. The truck doesn’t just offer the food reviewed here, it also has carnitas, chili hot dogs, and is continuing to bring more and more out-of-the-box foods to our campus. We would definitely recommend it to students at CCHS!
