Sophomore Kalia Dolan was born and raised in San Diego and has spent many summer seasons under the SD sun. She has done a variety of activities, providing no time to say, “I’m bored.” Her adventures appeal to people of so many different ages and walks of life. No matter who you are, it is undeniable that this hometown is nothing short of a summer hotspot and the ultimate destination.
The beach is a great place for families, friends, or to even partake alone. One of Dolan’s favorite summer activities was doing junior lifeguard training. “It’s just such good memories,” Dolan said, when explaining how every summer of training has been amazing. Her love for the water was only enhanced by the camps, as Dolan loves to surf while at the beach. Whether wanting to pursue lifeguarding, beach training is a way to learn life-saving skills, as well as make new friends as a kid or teen. Beaches such as Marine Street and Del Mar’s 15th street are very popular among CCHS students. You can tan, surf, swim, play a beach game, and do so much more on a summer’s day in one of these locations.
For those more interested in an exciting sporting event there are Padres games and the Del Mar Thoroughbred Meet. Padres stadium is electric no matter the score, and with a great selection of food and treats, you are guaranteed a good time. Every time at Petco Park feels just as enjoyable as the last, and it’s a place difficult to get sick of.
The Del Mar Racetrack holding the summer race meet has an equal amount of entertaining activities for sports fans. The track is filled with restaurants, places to bet, and, of course, watch the horses race.
Right before the racing season begins, the Del Mar Fairgrounds are utilized for the San Diego County Fair and Summer Concert Series San Diego . This is a great place for all that fried food, exhilarating rides, and time to spend with friends and family. Dolan is seeing one of the many big names performing this summer- Zedd. Other performers are Foreigner, Jon Pardi, and Ziggy Marley to name a few.
There are tons of other things to do in the summer whilst in San Diego like going to strawberry picking or the flower fields in Carlsbad. There is also no shortage of amusement parks in and around the San Diego area, such as the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, and Lego Land. These are great places to go with friends and family, as well as younger kids who could enjoy somewhere such as Sesame place.
The activities line up with a never-ending bucket list of things to do. Start checking off that list, and spend your summer taking part in what makes you fulfilled and satisfied.
