What’s Happening at the UCs?

As the deadline of November 30th passed, Many Cathedral seniors submitted their applications to the UC’s. Will the UC Strike deter senior decision to go to a UC?

November 30th was an important date for most Cathedral Seniors. It was the deadline for the University of California College Applications. Most seniors not only at Cathedral, but worldwide had schools like UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, and more on their list. But currently, at the UC’s there is a strike going on.

Students at the UC’s are anxious especially because of this strike. The teaching assistants at the UC’s are the ones on strike due to their insufficient pay. The strike involves not only teaching assistants but also, tutors, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate students. Labs are closed, some classes have been postponed, and assignments aren’t being graded. Faculty of the UC’s are torn between supporting those on strike but also supporting their students.
Though students support the TA’s in their efforts to stand up for themselves, they are also upset. This strike has come right in time with finals and the absence of help has heightened nerves and anxiety for students.
Will this UC strike minimize the amount of Cathedral Catholic seniors that commit to a college in May?
