High in the Oregon skies, an unexpected incident shocked the world. As passengers aboard an Alaska airlines flight clung to their seats, they began writing messages to their loved ones. In this article, we will talk about how and why as well as other details of the Alaskan Airlines Flight 1282. Fasten your seatbelts as we navigate through the turbulence of this incident.
On Friday January fifth at 5:07 pm , the Alaskan Airline Flight1282 took off from the Portland International Airport which was headed for Ontario. In total, the flight had 171 passengers. Although the flight was only about 20 minutes, it was a twenty minutes of torture. Only a few minutes after the flight took off a hole opened next to seat 26A. A defective door plug on the Alaskan Airline flight ripped off. When planes have a lower amount of passengers they often replace the emergency exit doors with a plug. On this flight though, the plug was defective and ripped off of the plane leaving a door sized hole in the plane. People on the flight described the plug ripping off as an “explosion” and a loud “boom” was heard all throughout the plane. Multiple people sustained sufficient injuries although Alaska Airlines has not yet released details about it except that everyone was treated. Since the plug blew off, items began being sucked out of the aircraft including headrests and seat cushions. Oxygen masks dropped down as the plane was suddenly depressurized. This incident was extremely chaotic and traumatizing for everyone on the flight.
There has been a major eruption about the incident especially within social media about the plane flight. Social media is covered with stories, insights, and even personal stories about the plane flight. Since this type of incident is such an unusual event that was not expected whatsoever, it has blown up. One particular aspect of the flight though is a reason why social media has been talking so much about this issue. The seats assigned to 26A and 26B were empty. Although it is unknown if these seats were purchased or not, it still remains a miracle. Trends have started online following this incident including the burnt toast theory. When you burn your toast, it places you about five to ten minutes behind your planned schedule. This small seemingly insignificant amount of time can cause people to miss a tragedy.
Alaska has since issued multiple apologies and updates explaining the incident. Although there are still many uncertain details about the flight, everyday more details are uncovered.
