“All I want for Christmas is Dance”

On December 2nd, at the Cathedral Catholic Guadalupe Center Theater, Varsity, Junior Varsity, and competition Dance Teams will perform their annual winter concert entitled, “All I Want For Christmas is Dance. ” Select dancers self choreograph routines for the Cathedral Catholic Dance team in styles ranging from jazz, lyrical, pom, and hip hop. The dance team spends around 1-2 months preparing and choreographing their unique routines. Dance team captain, Emma Hellenkamp tells us, “While preparing for the concert, we also are balancing football and competition season. We are very busy but work extremely hard for this show to come together.”

The CCDT national champion Competition team also performs routines in all styles. Their preparation includes countless hours in the studio every day as well as a “tech week.” The week of, they attend practices 2:30-8 here at school, perfecting their performance, until they are stage ready. Hellenkamp continues to explain how, “This concert takes huge preparation and hard work but it is a great display of everything our team does and stands for. We not only get to perform and get into the Christmas spirit, but we get to showcase all the talent on our teams and see our hard work pay off. The feeling of starting the show with all your best friends on stage is unmatched.”
