Last Friday, Super Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines, devastating thousands of people and leaving many without food, water, or medical care. In light of this situation, Cathedral Catholic’s Pan Asian Cultural Awareness Club has initiated a fundraiser to raise money for the aid of the people in the Philippines.
The club is working with Catholic Relief Services to raise money for those devastated by the typhoon. “The money will go directly to the affected areas,” said senior Cody Pham, leader of the Pan Asian Cultural Awareness Club.
The money donated to the Catholic Relief Services will be used to buy important supplies for those affected by the typhoon. “Catholic Relief Services uses the money to buy food, tarps, sanitation kits, and medical services,” said Cody.
Donation bins for the fundraiser are located in religion classes. Also, The Pan Asian Cultural Awareness Club will be having a lumpia sale this Friday to raise more money.
“People love food, so naturally, selling lumpia was a good idea,” said Cody. The sale will be held in front of the library and students will be able buy one lumpia for 50 cents.
