Cathedral Catholic’s annual Senior Overnighter is set to take place on September 10th in the Guadalupe Theater. Senior class co-moderators Mr. Matt Baier and Ms. Melissa Padgett encourage students to take advantage of this senior privilege.
Each year, the Senior Overnighter begins with check-in at 7:30 PM, followed by Mass in the chapel.
“The idea behind this Mass is to build community spirit and to allow students to sleep in on Sunday,” Ms. Padgett said.
A DJ will play music from 9 PM until 12 AM. After that, until 6 AM, seniors may participate in a variety of activities, including playing video games, eating, sleeping, playing Ping-Pong, and watching movies.
“We want to provide students with opportunities to create fun memories that they can look fondly back at after they have left CCHS,” Ms. Padgett said.
According to Mr. Baier, both he and Ms. Padgett have received a lot of positive feedback from seniors of years past. He said, “I think they like the opportunity to have a class bonding experience right in the beginning of the year. It helps set a good tone for the rest of the year.”
In fact, feedback has been so positive that the co-moderators are usually asked to organize another Senior Overnighter event later in the year. “Unfortunately,” Mr. Baier said, “that is not an option. We only get one Overnighter per year.”
Ms. Padgett advised seniors, “Don’t let this privilege pass you by.” She encourages seniors to “come with a great attitude and have a wonderful time.”
“Seniors are just beginning their last year of high school. They should really try to take advantage of every opportunity they have,” said Mr. Baier. “This is a great way to bond with current friends and create some new friendships with other classmates. Maybe you will spend time talking to someone you have known since you were a freshman but never really spent time with.”
Other special senior events that are set to take place this school year include April’s Senior Boat Dance at San Diego Bay and May’s Knott’s Berry Farm Trip. The Associated Student Body (ASB) will also sponsor other events, like senior lunches, throughout the year.
“This is a huge privilege and a great opportunity to have fun with your classmates. Take advantage of the events that are offered and make the most of your senior year,” Ms. Padgett said. “Although some days may seem slow, we’ll be at graduation in no time.”
As theClass of 2012 Senior Overnighter permission slip states,“Students must be dropped off at the front of the theater prior to the event and picked up at the conclusion of the event. No student will be allowed to drive home.”
