The Cathedral Catholic campus is buzzing about this year’s upcoming spring musical, Hairspray. With six shows scheduled to be performed, a total of 1,891 tickets have been sold, plus another 30 to 45 overflow seats per performance. The tickets for Hairspray sold out the day the posters went up.
The shows take place March 25th at 7pm, March 26th at 2pm and 7 pm, April 1st at 7pm, and April 2 at 2pm and 7pm. Although there is a waiting list of about 200 tickets, adding another show may not be possible due to the availability of the theatre or other events scheduled that day.
As Drama teacher Ms. Wilson explained, the quick sell out of Hairspray demonstrates the excitement of the student body to see the production. She said, “CCHS Drama has a stellar reputation…everyone knows we do good work. And they want to be a part of it.”
The cast of Hairspray, including drama veterans of four years and students new to the Drama program, has been working hard, drilling every scene and dance in rehearsal, to perform this Tony Award winning show.
“I see magic happening before my eyes every day…and I just can’t get over it!” said Ms. Wilson.
The hype around school has hardly gone unnoticed. With posters everywhere and a sold out production, the cast of Hairspray is putting in hours of hard work to perform for their fellow classmates.
As Ms. Wilson said, “There is a lot of sweat and hard work and love up on that stage.”
