The Good about Glossier
Glossier, Inc. is a beauty company founded in 2014 where you can find skincare, makeup, body care, and fragrance. You can purchase Glossier on their online store, glossier.com. There are also Glossier stores located in NYC, Atlanta, Brooklyn, D.C, London, Miami, Philadelphia, and Seattle.
In Los Angeles, there is Glossier Los Angeles and Glossier Alley; a to-go cafe with a coffee menu that includes custom Glossier drinks. This location is also the closest Glossier store to San Diego. Senior Alyssa Adajar went up to Los Angeles where she shopped in-store: “It’s a really welcoming environment! The space is open and bright, and the workers welcome you in and explain how things work. You can sample everything in the store. You take pictures of what you want, then find a worker with an iPad and they place the order for you. Then they bring your products out to you which is really nice.”
Why do people buy Glossier? For starters, their products have fun names. With bestsellers like Boy Brow, Cloud Paint, Balm Dotcom, and Milk Jelly Cleanser, those engaging names just make you want to try them!
Another reason why people continue to buy Glossier is for the packaging. If you order from their online store, your product comes in a white box. Once you open the box you are automatically met with a cute saying, “You look good” or “Skin first. Makeup second. Smile always.” Your products will also come in a pink bubble wrap pouch, “The pink bag my stuff came in was super cute and I had the ability to utilize it for other purposes, I now use it as a pencil case” said Cathedral senior Ryleigh Patterson. The product design is very minimalistic and simple. Kaiya Jessen, La Jolla high school senior adds, “I really like the packaging, a lot of the packaging for makeup these days is really extra and flashy. But Glossiers is very sleek and sophisticated, it gives it a very clean aesthetic and it makes it a bit iconic because it’s so unique for the packaging to be so simplistic that you automatically know it’s Glossier.” Something fun about the packaging of Glossier Cloud Paint, which are blushes, is that they are meant to look like paint tubes. While most other products resemble Pantone swatches: Balm Dotcom, Invisible Shield, Priming Moisturizer, Solar Paint and Lidstar.
On February 23, Glossier became available in store and online at Sephora, their first retail partner. Lucky for Cathedral Catholic students who love Glossier, there is a Sephora 2.3 miles away from the school in One Paseo. Cathedral Catholic sophomore Mae Kordas went into Sephora to purchase Glossier and said, “I was able to look at the different shades and try them on so I could see what looked best on me. Online, I’ve ordered mascara, eyebrow gel, blush, perfume, and lip products, which is nice because they modeled everything in pictures, but I prefer trying stuff on myself.” Sephora carries mostly everything Glossier has to offer. Now anytime after school you’re thinking of trying some new products, you can go down the street and try some Glossier!
