Last Friday, Cathedral Catholic held its first rally of the year to hype up homecoming as well as all the fall sports. Instead of in the gym, the rally was located outside in Manchester Stadium. In typical San Diego fashion, the sun beamed directly down onto the crowd for the entire half hour of school spirit. Other than suffering from mild heat stroke, the students seemed to enjoy the rally, especially the juniors who were definitely the loudest during the “our house” chant.
To introduce the homecoming court, a relay race was set up that consisted of a one-legged run and a golf-cart race around the track (except for security guard Anthony who cut through the middle of the field to catch up to his opponent, chemistry and physics teacher Mr. Stephen Anderson). The cheer team performed a dynamic routine and the dance team strutted their stuff, with senior Taylor Cunningham sitting crossed-legged on the field, watching them intently. Afterwards, the fall sports were introduced. From volleyballs to unicorn PillowPets, the fall sports members threw all sorts of things into the cheering crowd.
Finally, the “our house” chant began. First were the freshmen who tried their best, next were the sophomores who got a little louder, and third were the juniors who stepped their game up and were by far cheering the loudest. Lastly came the seniors who attempted a rendition of Miley Cyrus’ song “We Can’t Stop.” The seniors chanted “This is our house. This is our rules. And we can’t stop. And we won’t stop” to the music until ASB brought every class in to a final “our house” chant. With the rally concluded, students were encouraged to leave the stadium and get celebratory cookies on the knoll.
