The Environmental Club plays a big role in keeping Cathedral Catholic’s campus clean. Every Friday after school, the Environmental Club supervises recycling behind the lunch area. Club President Iman Salehian, a senior at Cathedral, leads club meetings throughout the month.
Environmental Club member senior Nicole Novaresi said that the earth-friendly club is different from a lot of other clubs. “We don’t meet very often in Mrs. Annicchiarico’s room, and we are more of an active club. Rather than sitting in a classroom, we are actually out there recycling.”
Junior Abby Stuart said that the Environmental Club is very important and could use new student members who want to help. “Without this club, recycling won’t get done. We basically have been recycling for everyone.”
Club moderator and CCHS AP Environmental teacher Mrs. Terrry Annicchiarico, encourages her own students to assist the club for extra credit. She is willing to give her students five extra credits points a maximum of two times per semester for their help. AP Environmental Science students also assist Mrs. Annicchiarco with rolling the blue recycling bins sometimes at the end of class.
Nicole said, “I’ve been recycling since freshman year. It helps to encourage reducing the use of nonrenewable resources.”
Since Earth Day falls on the same day as Good Friday this year (April 22nd), school will not be in session. However, the Environmental Club expressed hopes that students will remember to be environmentally friendly that day and everyday.
