College applications are always stressful for seniors. There’s worries about getting into dream schools, cramming for AP classes, and scoring well on SATs or ACTs.
After this stressful time though, there is a relief and continuous excitement for the next four years of their lives. Getting into dream schools, playing the sport you love, making new friends, and freedom like you’ve never had before are just a few things Cathedral students are looking forward to.
There’s a mix of students that are undecided, committed, and still waiting for college responses. Those that are confident where they’re going are filled with senioritis and ready to share their bittersweet goodbye with Cathedral.
Jocelyn Gibson is a senior at Cathedral Catholic and has committed to Point Loma Nazarene for D2 Cross Country. Gibson is intent on furthering her faith journey in college and is grateful for Cathedral’s guidance with her relationship with God. “Cathedral really strengthened my faith a lot,” Gibson said.
Faith is something that is important to Cathedral and a virtue that is integral to the students and overall community. It’s a blessing that we have on campus priests, a chapel open for prayer, and a whole staff of theologically educated teachers.
“I know nursing can be pretty brutal, and I’m gonna be doing a sport on top of that so I’m a little bit worried” Jocelyn adds. Having roots of faith is important, especially during moments of change. College is a huge change, having these ties to the Catholic faith is important and something Cathedral greatly helped with.
Chloe Chapeaux is a senior at Cathedral Catholic and is currently planning on attending Southern Methodist University (SMU). Chapeaux is intent on furthering her education in Political Science and being an active member in her college community.
“I’m excited…[SMU] has one of the best programs for my major in the U.S,” Chapeaux said. At Cathedral, there is a course for College Political Science, which helped Chloe to realize her passion in the subject.
“Community involvement is something I realized is important to me as a person,” she noted. SMU has a large student population and passionate school spirit which will be a perfect fit for Chapeaux. Cathedral Catholic has also helped with this realization as the community and close knit relationships on campus are something essential to Cathedral’s identity.
Lindsay Zimmer is a junior at Cathedral Catholic and is committed to the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) for D1 Cross Country and Track. Zimmer is planning on growing in her sport while also making new connections and advancing academically.
“I loved the balance of sports, academics, and social life there,” Zimmer said. UCLA is located in the Los Angeles area and has a lot of pride and spirit. Like UCLA, Cathedral is also filled with this school pride with vibrant spirit weeks and action packed football games.
“I’m really excited because I got a lot of benefits,” Lindsay explains. Since Lindsay is committed to a sport, the college provides a lot of support and benefits for a comfortable experience.
There are a lot of students excited for college, and Cathedral has definitely prepared them well. College is meant to help grow what a student already has and Cathedral has played a vital role in instilling these values into their students and creating passion.
The Class of 2025 (and 2026) are definitely going places!
