Cathedral Catholic High School is full of musically talented students. Some of these students have decided to take their abilities to the next level and become members of their own band. Be sure to look out for these talented up-and-coming bands.
Burn Out Kids
Burn Out Kids is a unique punk rock band made up of the Kattoula brothers and a drummer found on Craigslist. Their distinct name describes the band’s personality. Their music doesn’t fit into one specific genre, and they feel like it’s “burning out.” It also just “sounds really cool.” Burn Out Kids first came together when the Kattoula brothers decided they wanted to form a band. They went onto Craigslist to find a drummer. They posted an ad asking for a drummer and soon found a thirteen year old drummer who was a perfect fit. The Burn Out Kids is inspired by Green Day, Blink 182, Rancid, and other punk rock bands. Burn Out Kids plan to play at the Carlsbad Marathon on January 23.
James Morris
James Morris is a rock band formed by former solo artist James Morris. James decided to create this band because he “thought it would be fun” to play music with other people. They are inspired by the bands Good Charlotte, My Chemical Romance, and Linkin Park. They have played a show at Soma and are hoping to book the House of Blues.
Make It Last Kid
Make It Last Kid is a band devoted to living in the moment. Their name and music spread the message of “carpe diem” to youth. Peter Schrupp and Nate Blake were the first to come up with Make It Last Kid. Peter Schrupp is vocals and lead guitar, Nate Blake is guitar, and Ryan Badilla, a CCHS junior, is bass.Peter and Nate learned that they both enjoyed playing music and decided to form a band. Their genre of music moves from pop to punk to alternative rock. They describe it as “a little bit of everything.” They’re inspired by the bands You and Me at Six, Kings of Leon, and Pinback. Make It Last Kid competed in and won the Carlsbad High School Battle of the Bands, and they have played a show at Soma. As for upcoming shows, they are set to play on October 22nd at the Epicenter in San Diego.
