The Lady Dons pose for a team picture

With Winter Sports starting up, let’s take a step back and take a look at the conclusion of all of our fall sports!

On the girls side of fall sports; Girls Golf, Girls Field Hockey, Girls Tennis, Girls Cross Country, and Girls Volleyball, all had fantastic seasons. The boys side of fall sports; Boys Water polo, Football, Boys Cross Country, and Boys Beach Volleyball, had amazing seasons as well, along with Coed Fencing.

Girls Volleyball won both the CIF Open Division San Diego Section title and the State Open Division title, finishing their season 42-0 and 103-1 in sets. They won all the tournaments they attended throughout the fall; Kamehameha Volleyball Tournament, Dave Mohs Tournament, Durango Fall Classic, Geico Girls Volleyball Tournament. After winning state and being number one in California, Maxpreps named them national champions.

Third time’s a charm! After winning the Western League Championship, the Girls Cross Country team grabbed their third consecutive CIF championship as they won the CIF Division III San Diego Section Cross Country Championship. They traveled up to Fresno to compete in the CIF State Cross Country Championships, where they finished second in Division III.

Girls Golf were the 1st Place Team at the City Tournament and finished their season as Division II CIF San Diego Section runner-ups. Girls Tennis were Western League Champions and CIF Open Division San Diego Section Semi-finalist. Girls Field Hockey fell to Fallbrook in the CIF Division I San Diego Section Semi-finals, ending their season 11-12-1.

Boys Water Polo fell to La Jolla in the CIF Open Division San Diego Section Semifinals 10-7, but bounced back fast and grabbed the CIF Division II State Title beating Vista 10-7.

Our Football team finished the regular season 5-5 with key wins against Mater Dei Catholic Chula Vista, the Helix Highlanders, and Saint Augustine. They played Torrey Pines round two of Division I playoffs and won 30-10 and advanced to the Semifinals. The following week, they faced the Mater Dei Crusaders again, but lost 14-9 and ended their season. They finished 3rd in Western League and 7th in San Diego.

Coed Fencing has had two tournaments so far. The first one was an intersquad tournament to compete for top seed. Jonathan Hoiles and Greg Montegna, the captains of the team, placed highest. Next there was a trisquad meet with La Jolla Country Day and Polytechnic and the Dons placed second. Their season is still going strong with their next meet in January.

Now that our fall sports are finished, make sure you show some school spirit and support our Winter Sports: Boys and Girls Basketball, Girls and Boys Rugby, Girls and Boys Soccer, Boys In-line Hockey, Boys Wrestling, and Girls Water Polo. Hope to see you on the court, on the field, on the mat, in the arena, and poolside supporting your Dons!
