In this photo of our varsity girls volleyball team, they smile with pride after being named #1 in the nation!

Coming off an amazing year last year winning CIF And making a huge run for states the Girl’s Volleyball team plans to make an even greater run this year.

Our Lady Dons volleyball team is currently 28-0 and is ranked #1 nationally. The girls have been putting in countless hours of work and it has all been paying off. The team is a force to be reckoned with because they still haven’t let up a match. This season there are 10 seniors and El CID was able to catch up with two of them to talk about their season.

“This season is really important for us as a team. Having 10 seniors we all really want to leave an effect on the school before we go off to play in college. After winning CIF last year we are excited to hopefully continue that legacy and also win state” states Noemie Glover ‘23.

The strong relationship the team has shines through in playing as a team. Peers and spectators to notice their communication and love for volleyball within seconds of watching the team play. The players spend countless hours working on their craft and their relationships with one another. They understand that working as one will lead them to become great and that’s exactly what has happened this season.

Milan Bayless ‘23 mentions, “As a senior, this season is the best sendoff for my high school volleyball career I could ever ask for. All 19 of us are so close, which makes me enjoy practices after a long day of school. It’s still unreal how successful we have been this season but I expected nothing less and I can’t wait to see what more we accomplish as the season continues.”

The players have played in three tournaments so far. They traveled to Hawaii to play in the Kamehameha Tournament and went undefeated. They also drove up to Orange County to play in the Dave Mohs Tournament going undefeated once again. And, lastly, the team played in the Durango Fall Classic Tournament in Las Vegas, again going undefeated.

Our Lady Dons practice every day with a great leader and head coach, Julianna Evens-Conn. Coach Evens-Conn has them working on defense, blocking and passing. Watching the Lady Dons it is abundantly clear that the drills they do in practice translate over to the game.

With the team chemistry and play making ability, there is no doubt in the CCHS community that they will accomplish greatness this year.
